Why 300 PPM HOCl Beats 200 PPM for Serious Grapplers
Full Guard V2 just launched at 200 PPM. REST ROUND uses 300 PPM. The difference is 50% more active antimicrobial per spray. For recreational grapplers that might not matter. For anyone dealing with staph, MRSA, or training at volume — it does.
What "Optimised for Stability" Actually Means
Full Guard's own product description for V2 says the concentration was "optimised for stability and everyday use on face and body." That is an honest statement. Lower concentration HOCl is more stable in a bottle over time and gentler on skin for everyday use.
It is also 33% less active antimicrobial than 300 PPM. The tradeoff between stability and potency is real. Full Guard chose stability. REST ROUND chose potency — and solved the stability question with a sealed nozzle that preserves 300 PPM concentration until first use.
When the Difference Matters
| Scenario | 200 PPM | 300 PPM |
|---|---|---|
| Light recreational training, once a week | Sufficient | More than sufficient |
| Regular training 3–5 sessions per week | Adequate | Recommended |
| High volume training — double sessions | Reduced effectiveness on contaminated surfaces | Maintains kill rate under organic load |
| Thailand fight camp or competition travel | Higher risk — organic load reduces 200 PPM effectiveness | Clinically appropriate for high-risk environments |
| Previous staph or MRSA infection | Insufficient for MRSA decontamination | 300 PPM is MRSA decontamination threshold |
| Open cuts or mat burns | Less effective penetration through organic material | Higher concentration compensates for wound barrier |
The Organic Load Problem
Lab tests for HOCl efficacy are usually conducted on clean surfaces. In real training environments, the surfaces are not clean — sweat, sebum, and organic material from training reduce the effective concentration of HOCl that reaches the pathogen.
This is called organic load reduction. At 200 PPM, significant organic load can reduce effective concentration below the reliable kill threshold for MRSA and resistant staph strains. At 300 PPM, the higher starting concentration means the effective concentration after organic load reduction remains above the clinical threshold.
For a recreational grappler training once a week on well-maintained mats, 200 PPM is fine. For anyone training at volume in a Thailand camp, at a competition, or with a history of staph — 300 PPM is the correct concentration.
"Been here over a month and zero staph or ringworm."
Colby Thicknesse — UFC Fighter · Thailand Training Camp · REST ROUND 300 PPMWhy REST ROUND Can Hold 300 PPM
The stability challenge with higher-concentration HOCl is real — it degrades faster when exposed to air. REST ROUND solves this with a sealed nozzle that ships separately. The formula stays at full 300 PPM until the moment of first use. From first spray to last, you get the full concentration the label states.
The bottom line
For serious grapplers training at volume — 300 PPM. No compromise.
300 PPM HOCl · pH 5.5–6 · Sealed nozzle
